A History of IRBs

This timeline examines events over the last 100 years that have impacted the current system of medical ethics review in the U.S. There has been a progressive increase in the protections of human subjects and the amount of overview and attention to ethics in medical research. The current system of Institutional Review Boards is borne from the government's focus on ensuring that past unethical studies and errors are not repeated.
