11 h 30 min, 6 oct. 1789 ans - Women March on Versailles

Description:

On October 5-6 1789, A mob of woman that were demanding bread for their families marched on Versailles after gathering some other upset Parisians. When they arrived, they asked for “The Baker”, “The Baker’s Wife” and “The Bakers Son”. Louis XVI talked to some of the woman and made a promise to disperse all of the bread in Versailles through the crowd. The National Guard showed up with the purpose of taking King Louis XVI to Paris. This complicated things for him. Part of the crowd got Marie Antoinette’s quarters and she barely escaped to the King’s room through a hidden passageway. The King made a big mistake when he announced “I will go to Paris with my wife and my children.”
