Description:
It was dedicated in New York Harbor by President Grover Cleveland after congress approved use of Bedloe's island.
Originally known as “Liberty Enlightening the World,” the statue was proposed by aFrench historian to commemorate the alliance between the French and Americans during the American revolution.
