31 déc. 1891 - Ellis Island

Description:

An immigration station for European immigrants located in the New York Harbor from 1892-1954. Many European immigrants passed through Ellis Island, requiring enduring rigorous medical and documentation examinations, and a paid entry before being allowed into the U.S.. It is significant because it represents the immigration that fuelled America at the beginning of the 20th century, and now serves as a successful museum. Ellis Island influenced Andrew Carnegie because as more people entered America looking for jobs, Carnegie's workforce, and subsequently his industry, grew in size, power, and success.
