Description:

John Ware is a man that has made history in Alberta for ranching. Born a slave in South Carolina, United States in 1845. He was very well known for his talent in training and riding cattle. For this skill he was able to bring the first cattle to Southern Alberta in 1882. He brought 3000 cattle to Sir Hugh Allen’s North West Cattle Company Ranch in the foothills Southwest of Calgary. He worked for different ranches until he eventually registered his own brand in 1885 called the Four Nines (now Three Nines) or the Walking Stick Brand and in 1890 started his own ranch. In 1892 married a person named Mildred Lewis from Ontario because it will increase settlement. He was a very good business man and has contributed to his Province by bringing the first cattle. Now ranching is a very important business in Alberta. He died in September 13, 1905.
