Description:
The Missouri Compromise was made after Missouri requested to allow slavery in their state. At the time, the U.S. was comprised of 22 states, 11 free and 11 slave. Tensions over slavery were at an all time high, and to quell unrest, congress allowed Missouri to become a slave state with the contingency being that Maine would also be admitted into the Union to keep the balance of slave to free states in line.
