Description:
Occurred April 9th, 1865. General Robert E. Lee had tried to outrun Grant to the west of Richmond and Petersburg in Virginia. However, when Lee reached Appomattox he realized that his path was blocked. This was the last battle of the Civil War before Lee surrendered to Grant.
