28 juin 1919 - Treaty of Versailles

Description:

The Treaty of Versailles, which was signed exactly five years after Ferdinand was assassinated, was what officially ended World War 1. The Treaty of Versailles was chosen over more forgiving peace treaty options, like Wilson’s 14 Points Plan. A famous part of it is known as the War Guilt Clause, which forced Germany and its allies to take full responsibility for the loss and damage during WW1. The treaty hurt Germany the most, because they had to give up lots of land, demilitarize, and pay huge reparations. Looking back, the treaty is often seen as too harsh because it greatly hurt Germany’s economy, which was a reason that Hitler could later gain power.
