2 janv. 1817 - Monroe Presidency
Description:
James Monroe, a Founding Father, served as the fifth president of the US from 1817 to 1825. He played a significant role in westward expansion, helping negotiate the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, before he was President, and purchasing Florida when he was President. During his presidency, he signed the Missouri Compromise to temporarily solve the slavery debate between Northern and Southern states and keep the peace. He also greatly strengthened American foreign policy, most famously giving the Monroe Doctrine that forbid European powers from intervening or colonizing in the Western Hemisphere.
