5 mai 1789 - Louis XVI Estates-General
Description:
Meeting in versailles to approve a new tax plan because Louis XVI wasn't getting a lot of money, and he was spending a lot of the wars that France was participating in. This was the first time that the Estates-General had been called since 1614. The Estates-General at this time was still a monarchist institution as it did not give a lot of power to the poorer people (third estate). Instead, each estate was given one vote, even though there were far more people in the third than either the first of second estates.
