The Australian federation was when the 6 British colonies of Australia: New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, and Western Australia joined together to become a single country. Fiji and New Zealand planed to be in the federation but never followed through

People had already been trying to get the colonies to join back in the 1850s The Idea of Australia federation began to gain traction after the federation of Canada in 1867 but nothing would happen for a couple of decades.

Some of the reasons that people provided for federation were: Better, easier trade and Improved and united defense and Immigration, benefits of united railways and post and a stronger government

Austalia has become a stronger country because of its federation, the election of its first prime minister and the various benefits such as a united government and united trade.
