1 janv. 1929 - Edward O. Wilson

Description:

Wilson has been called "the father of sociobiology" and "the father of biodiversity" for his environmental advocacy, and his secular-humanist and deist ideas about religious and ethical matters. Among his greatest contributions to ecological theory is the theory of island biogeography (the geographical distribution of plants and animals). Wilson argues that the belief in God and rituals of religion are products of evolution. He argues that they should not be rejected or dismissed, but further investigated by science to better understand their significance to human nature. He studied the mass extinctions of the 20th century and their relationship to modern society and was part of the international conservation movement to protect tropical forests.
