1 janv. 1765 - Stamp Act of 1765

Description:

A direct tax on all 13 colonies that stated that all printed materials must carry a stamp from London. That stamp was used as a revenue generator.
Causes: Great Britain was still in debt after the Seven Years war and the English citizens within Great Britain were being heavily taxed as well. The threat of a revolt in Great Britain seemed to loom closer and closer. Thus, Parliament tried to assert full governmental powers on the colonies, since they were subjects of the King just like those on the mainland.
Historical Impact: The imposed tax gave rise to the saying “No taxation without representation” in the colonies. Not surprisingly, the tax didn’t last long with it being repealed the next year.
