1 janv. 1808 - Importation of Slaves is Outlawed
Description:
On January 1st of 1808, the Act Prohibiting Importation of Slaves went into effect, after being enacted the year prior by the United States Congress. President Jefferson had discussed the idea of outlawing the importation of slaves for decades before this act went into effect. Despite this act, over 250,000 slaves were illegally smuggled and brought into the United States between 1808 and 1860. This would greatly change the demographic of the United States with fewer Africans coming over.
