En este parámetro con influencias de diversos artistas, se enmarca el cubismo y el futurismo. El film d'art (Marcel L´Herbier, Delluc, Abel Gance y Jean Epstein) funda la especificidad del cine por medio del montaje, el ritmo, la música y la poesía. Absolute Films, Cine Puro o filmes abstractos: Eggeling, Richter, Ruttman, Leger, entre otros, crean la geometría y arbitrariedad del significante. Del Formativismo poético al Formativismo teórico: representado por Rudolph Arnheim y Bela Baláz.
