Following Brown, new effort was directed towards educational opportunities for individuals with disabilities. The first significant piece of legislation to be passed post-Brown was the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. The initial legislation provided federal funding for public education, making education more accessible for all individuals. An addition to the legislation a year later set aside funds specifically for students with disabilities (Yell, Drasgow, Bradley, & Justesen, 2004).
