Description:
The pathogen originally spread through poultry farms in Hong Kong in 1998. The Chinese government responded by disinfecting bird markets, banning the sale of ducks and geese, and killing millions of birds. There were outbreaks again in 2002 and 2007. By 2007 there were 315 cases and 191 fatalities.
