Description:
First arrival of the Spanishes to the beaches of Yucatan under Hernandez of Cordoba, who later dies because of the wounds received in battle against the Mayas. The arrival of the Spaniards brought with them Old World diseases unknown among the Maya, including smallpox, influenza, and measles. In one century 90 percent of the native population of Mesoamerica died.
