jun 7, 1942 - Battle of Midway
Description:
This was the turning point for the Allies in the Pacific. It took place from June 3-6 of 1942, 1000 miles northwest of Hawaii: Admiral Chester Nimitz, outnumbered by the Japanese fleet four to one in ships and planes, took US carriers behind the horizon from Midway Islands and laid an ambush. When the Japanese fleet launched their attack, U.S. planes bombed Japan's ships, sinking or crippling all four of Japan's aircraft carriers and 322 planes. The battle broke the back of the Japanese Navy.
