jun 21, 1941 - Executive Order 8802

Description:

Roosevelt issued an executive order which forbid discrimination and segregation in the defense industries. One example is the removal of segregated blood banks for the wounded. A champion in the agitation for fair treatment toward African Americans in the work place was A. Philip Randolph (brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters). Roosevelt's executive order was considered part of the "double V," victory over dictators abroad and victory over racism at home.
