aug 20, 1941 - Atlantic Charter

Description:

By August of 1941, the U.S. had chosen sides in the growing global conflict. Roosevelt and Churchill, representing 2 of the last democracies standing, met in a battleship off the coast of Newfoundland presumably to strategize and position. In their official statement, called the Atlantic Charter, the U.S. and Britain stated their opposition to imperialistic annexation of new territory and their support of nations right to self determination. The document also promoted disarmament, and an international peace security organization.
