sep 4, 1938 - Munich Conference

Description:

Adolph Hitler appealed to depression weary Germans by advocating open defiance of the Treaty of Versailles and eventually territorial aggression in Europe. In 1936 the Germans repossessed the demilitarized Rhineland. In 1938, the German army was welcomed into Austria and forced their way into German speaking segment of Czechoslovakia (Sudetenland). Britain, France and by negligence the U.S. all agreed (Munich Conference, Munich Pact, September 1938) to appease Hitler by giving in to his demand for Sudetenland. Hitler promised it was his last grab at territory, six months later Germany invaded all of Czechoslovakia and a year later he grabbed Western Poland.
