jul 14, 1930 - Hawley-Smoot
Tariff
Description:
The 1930 bill raised the average duty on goods to an all time high (during peace) of 60%. Both bills hurt European manufacturers significantly, evoked European increases in tariffs and made the European recessions/depressions even worse. By 1930 the U.S. was already into the depression and Hawley Smoot exacerbated the problems.
