Goodyear Rubber and Tire was established in 1898 by Frank Seiberling in Akron, Ohio. They were inspired by the findings of Charles Goodyear. These findings involved the process of vulcanization which opened the door for the manufacturing of rubber. With Goodyear being located in Akron, there was already a base for rubber companies. This was also an advantage because there was a reliable workforce within the town and close access to the B&O Railroad line. Akron would become known as the "Rubber Capital of the World" because of the expansion of Goodyear.
