jan 1, 1824 - Symphony No. 9 in D Minor, Op. 125

Description:

Year: 1824
Widely known as Ode to Joy this piece was originally a poem written by Friedrich Schiller. The purpose of Beethoven using this poem specifically and making a whole piece about it was because “ it was a radical call for equality, freedom, and brotherhood. All Together” (Carnegie Hall, paragraph 1). This belief of Beethoven can even be connected to why he admired Napleon before Napleon’s emperor era. They both valued the ideas of freedom and brotherhood and wished that is what the world can share together. The piece is an orchestra and contains vocals, woodwinds, strings, brass and percussion. The piece contains 4 movements. The first movement starts the initial soft timbre and low dynamics of the violins and gradually increases the dynamics and amount of instruments used at once. The dynamics suddenly change from loud, soft, and then loud and wild again at 3:42 - 3:50. The most iconic part of this piece is during the climax and last movement at 7:20 when all the instruments come into unison and the vocals are implemented as well, with high dynamics and a joyful mood.
