feb 1, 1814 - Fidelio, Op. 72

Description:

Year:1814
This piece stands out in Beethoven's life as it is his only opera. This opera was revised and changed from 1805 till 1814 where the final and complete version was released. The story of this piece consists of a woman named “Leonore” who disguised herself as a man “Fidelo” to save her imprisoned husband, which is similar to the movie Mulan. The opera consists of vocals, and a large varied orchestra. This piece by Beethoven is split into two acts since it is an opera and the music continuously plays throughout the opera. The music opens with a loud array of trumpets and violins and then the dynamics shift into a lower and softer melody consisting of flutes. The dynamics do tend to go from peaceful to loud out of nowhere such as in 0:31 for a couple seconds but go low just shortly. This piece shows how Beethoven's brilliant expertise in the world of music isn't just tied to the piano or an orchestra but shows instead the way he can work on a large work like an opera for years and still manage to fine tune the way it is performed.
