jan 1, 1808 - Symphony No.5 in C minor, Op 67

Description:

Year: 1808
This piece is one of Beethoven’s many pieces that consist of a packed orchestra with string quartets, woodwinds, etc. This piece was structured in 4 movements and premiered in Vienna during the concert of 1808. The concert is well known for at the time being negatively viewed for the performance but later on people started to view it differently with how the music was viewed and interpreted differently (Klugewicz, page 1). This is one of Beethoven’s iconic pieces due to its dramatic characteristics where the dynamics change drastically and as well as being able to tell a story through the song. In the first movement the iconic opening motif that is often called “fate knocking at the door” connects the movements of this piece as well as connects the story. The story that is often interpreted from this piece is that it represents the struggle of Beethoven's battle with his deafness and as the moments go on and reach the end it symbolizes the triumph of Beethoven through this issue that made him question his life purpose and if he should continue.
