Description:
On July 4 1776, the Continental Congress adopted the "Declaration of Independence" which was highly inspired by John Locke and englightenment philosophy. It claimed at "all men were created equal" and "endowed with certain unalienable rights" including the right to "life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness". It also proclaimed the colonies fully independent states with full power to wage war, conclude peace, establish commerce and contract alliances.
