Description:

A set of reforms implemented by Athenian statesman Cleisthenes that introduced a new system of determining tribes and citizenship, as well as several improvements to the Athenian military system. The reforms also gave more power to the people's assembly (demos). Each of the ten 'tribes' formed submitted 50 representatives to the Boule (Council of Five Hundred), playing "an absolutely vital role in the new 'democracy'".
