jan 1, 500 - Monks Copying Biblical Text
Description:
Copying the Bible was undertaken in earnest in the monasteries in the Middle Ages. Several thousand monasteries were built across Europe. Many monks made copies of the scriptures and produced thousands of magnificent Bibles. Teams of scribes and artists worked with parchment to make beautiful works of art. They went through 80 quills a day and the artists embellished the work with intricate designs, called illuminations.
