jan 1, 1984 - The Print Shop is launched
Description:
The Print Shop was a stationary software that was among the first class of publishing programs for personal computers designed for creating banners, signs, and other forms of communication that would benefit more with a picture instead of solely text. It was originally created for Apple II.
~80% of the graphics from The Print Shop has a modern day emoji equivalent, according to an article from theatlantic.com. Like Kurita's emoji, these graphics were created for the purpose of relaying information instead of emotion. In fact, the people options that The Print Shop had to offer didn't even have faces! Surprisingly, animals were the only graphics that included faces.
Aside from the images that can be compared to their emoji counterpart, The Print Shop's inventory included a few unique images, such as a holiday wreath, Cupid, a fax machine, floppy disk, and antique car (LaFrance, 2016).
The Print Shop recently released it's latest version (4.0) with more templates and text editing abilities to create projects such as flyers, ads, or invitations (“The Print Shop Deluxe 4.0.”).
