oct 26, 2016 - Kurita's original set of emojis is featured in MoMa
Description:
The Museum of Modern Art announces that they will be adding Kurita's original set of emoji to their collection as a tribute to the design that "altered human behavior" and "radically altered our world" (Galloway, 2016).
While the exhibit received a general positive review from its visitors, there are a few who criticized MoMa for "joining the cultural race to the bottom." Jonathon Jones with The Guardian recounted his first experience visiting MoMa in the 90's and called it an "authoritative and compelling vision of what is truly great in the art of the modern age," and compared it to what he now describes as an omnivorous contemporary showcase. Despite the slight hysteria presented with Jones' argument, there's no doubt that the majority have rather positive feelings with emojis and the impact they've had on our lives thus far (Jones, 2016).
