jan 1, 2006 - Google begins converting emoji to Unicode
Description:
Emojis quickly became popular in Japan, and other countries were quick to notice as well. Google decided to head the charge and began petitioning for emoji to be recognized by the Unicode Consortium. This would begin a standardization of emojis that would allow users internationally to use emojis on their own devices (Pardes, 2018).
