As part of the British Commonwealth forces, Australian soldiers fight in the Greek campaign, which ends in retreat. During the Battle of Crete (May 1941), Australian troops are involved in defending the island from a German airborne invasion. Despite fierce resistance, the Allies are forced to evacuate, and the Germans eventually take control of Crete.
