apr 7, 1922 - Secretary of the Interior Albert Fall secretly leases federal oil reserves in Teapot Dome, Wyoming, to Harry F. Sinclair of the Mammoth Oil Company. Fall is eventually convicted of taking a $100,000 bribe. This crime, known as the Teapot Dome Scandal was considered the most significant scandal in U.S. politics before Watergate.
