aug 30, 1921 - In response to the "Battle of Blair Mountain," issues Proclamation demanding armed coal miners and operators protesting in West Virginia return home peaceably by noon 09/01/1921. A violent conflict had escalated following the killing of two local law enforcement officers by detectives hired by the coal company. At least 6000 miners fought with 3000 coal company detectives
