feb 5, 1900 - In Washington DC, Britain and the United States sign the first Hay-Pauncefote Treaty revising the Clayton-Bulwer Treaty of 1850, approving of a jointly occupied neutral isthmian canal connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean.
