oct 3, 1902 - In response to the Anthracite Coal Strike, Roosevelt convenes a conference in Washington DC while the White House was undergoing renovation. Roosevelt stated that he had no authority to intervene in the strike, but regarded the situation as intolerable. This is the first time a president has intervened in an industrial dispute.
