jul 7, 1896 - A former Representative, newspaper editor William Jennings Bryan is nominated for President at the Democratic National Convention. His speech at the convention, prior to the nomination, is known as “Cross of Gold”. It is one of the most famous speeches in American political history. Bryan was 36 years old at the time of the nomination.
