may 4, 1886 - At a demonstration to protest the police violence of 05/03/1886, a dynamite bomb was thrown--a "first" in US domestic conflict. Seven police and four workers died from the blast. Subsequently, 10 alleged anarchists were arrested and tried for murder (despite lack of evidence that any had possessed or thrown the bomb). On August 20, 1886, the defendants were found guilty. Four were hanged on November 10, 1886. This has become known as the Haymarket Affair
