Sanford, in which the Supreme Court determined that a free black person is still not a citizen, and as non-citizens, they have no right to sue in Federal Court. The right of citizens to their private property, including slaves, is established in the US Constitution, and Congress could not prohibit slavery in the territories as it had done in the Missouri Compromise
