feb 20, 1845 - Vetoes "An act relating to revenue cutters and steamers." Objects that the language of the act as threatening to "violate the sanctity of contracts" entered into by the Government. The Senate and the House both voted to override on 03/03/1845 (5 Stat 795). Senator Huntington (Whig, CT) dismissed the veto as "merely technical and philological, amounting to nothing."
