mar 3, 1832 - Supreme Court decides Worcester v. Georgia The Court had held that Georgia did not have authority to regulate relationships between its citizens and members of the Cherokee Nation. This was because the Cherokee had a treaty with the US, and Georgia law had no force. Jackson had defended states rights in dealing with Indian tribes and was reported to have privately refused to enforce the Court ruling
