may 28, 1830 - CCOT: (4.8): Indian Removal Act.

Description:

The Indian Removal Act created Indian territory of Oklahoma and asked Native Americans east of the Mississippi river to move there, resulting in a "trail of tears". as Indians were forced to move west to Oklahoma where 13,000 to 16,000 died during the way.

The Indian Removal Act was signed by president Andrew Jackson on may 28, 1830. This act showed a hostile relationship between the US and Native Americans.

Cherokee (Native American group) went to the supreme court twice to protect themselves from Georgia.
The Supreme court ruled that the Cherokee were not a sovereign nation, but under control of the Federal government.
The Supreme Court also ruled that a state does not have the right to Cherokee what to do.

It was a Federal matter and a fun fact is that Oklahoma is the state with the most Native Americans living there.
