She was an extremely intelligent female in 1650, who was strong headed and shared her opinions,. That was very rare for this point in time, she fought against those who said she should stick to doing housewife activities. She wrote a guidebook for her children to help them navigate their way through this world because she knew her experience and knowledge would be valuable to them. She wasn't going to let anyone silence her, and in a god fearing time standing out or upsetting people was brave.

"I am obnoxious to each carping tongue/ who says my hand a needle better fits,/ A poet's pen all scorn I should take thus wrong,/ For such a despite they cast of female wits:/ If what I do prove well, it won't advance,/ They'll say it's stol'n or else it was by chance"(Bradstreet, 122).
