sep 1, 1850 - Compromise of 1850
Description:
Through this compromise, California was admitted as a free state, the slave trade ended in Washington D.C, a new strict fugitive slave law was enforced, Texas gives up it’s claim to New Mexico in exchange for $10 milllion, and popular sovereignty would now decide slavery issues in Utah and New Mexico territories. This compromise boosted abolition, turning more people against slavery, while making those in the South fear the end of slavery.
