Between 700,000 and 1,000,000 years ago, humans gained the ability to create and control fire. This discovery served many benefits including cooking, warmth, protection against predators, agriculture excavation, etc. It was widely believed that the human utilization of fire didn’t occur until much more recently, but charred animal bones and ash plant remains from South Africa’s Wonderwerk Cave have confirmed that the manipulation of fire dates back about a million years.
