jan 1, 1215 - Magna Carta
Description:
The Magna Carta had a few main purposes when it arose in June of 1215; To limit government so that the government would only do things and exist with the support of the people. Also, rule of law which is something that makes everyone subject to the law and must follow the laws set out for the benefit of society. Some other things the Magna Carta protected were, church rights, citizens protection from illegal arrests/imprisonments, and limits on taxes that go to the Crown. The main idea of the Magna Carta though, was that it was the first written document that expressed rule of law but especially that the king was not above the law. The Magna Carta allowed individuals to be able to be more free without having to be part of the collective that essentially had to bow down ton to whatever the Crown said. This helped society become partially more individualistic because people could trust in rule of law.
