Description:

A decade later (around 1534), Jacques Cartier ventured on the first ever French attempt to try and colonize North America. He navigated through the St Lawrence Gulf and then across the St Lawrence river, between what’s now New York and Canada. He went as far as Montreal and then to Quebec, where he established a short-lived colony in 1541 that lasted almost a year. The French lost interest in Canada for over half a century.
