dec 26, 1679 - 1680 - The Pueblo Revolt (Popè)

Description:

In 1680, an indigenous leader called Popè managed to cause a massive rebellion with several other tribes and took over Santa Fe as his own confederation. In doing it so, they burned churches, destroyed all catholic reliques and tortured, mutilated and executed priests. The Pueblo Revolt constitutes the biggest dent ever inflicted upon the Europeans. It took Spain 14 years and four military assaults to gain control of Santa Fe.
